i was on the lookout for something to put my CF cards in while traveling and shooting. one of my most awesome, thoughtful clients had originally bought me a polka-dotted scooter pouch from the dainty squid. at first i was using my beloved pouch to stuff and store business cards. it was my rolodex. well, my compact flash cards kicked out the business cards and i now use the pouch exclusively to store and transport my memory cards to and from shoots. with a lot of back-to-back shoots, i need to store each assignment separate from one another. while photographers will find that its not a traditional storage container, it sure is cute. you can find these on etsy and thedaintysquid.com. i had a hard time deciding between all the options to be honest. there were everything from travel themed patterns, robots, scissors, owls, piggies, measuring tape, woodgrain, fawn, skulls, lawn gnomes….

When I met with Karen and Bob, I had no idea what I was in for, and neither did they. The wind was almost unbearable and it created quite the display of waves crashing. This made a typical shoot location all the more interesting. The challenge to shoot in chilly temperatures against so much wind made the final results of the shoot so much more rewarding! Thanks for being such troopers!

Cynthia works as a planner at five star luxury hotel, and when she and Dave hired me to shoot their wedding, it was especially flattering since she has access to all the wedding vendor recommendations under the sun. Before the shoot, Cynthia was all over the board on making location choices. She then wrote to me “I just need to remind myself to chill and have fun.” She and Dave did just that. The shoot was entirely improvised and we worked with surroundings that jumped out at us. Sometimes, I get requests to have historic landmarks and tourist destinations used during engagement sessions. Often, my favorite shots are taken in tucked away places that catch my eye. Above, a brick alley way and a church garden were simple locations that let me capture some true feelings the couple had for each other. The focus of the photo was themselves rather than a building, or iconic piece of public art.

With the trend of destination weddings on the rise, brides are constantly in search of that perfect wedding weekend location. Whether you are a local, or are considering having your destination wedding in Palm Springs, you and your guests can enjoy the city for its mid-century modern architecture, nearby Indian Canyons great for hiking, stunning natural beauty of the San Jacinto Mountains, sparkling pools, and of course luxury hotels and resorts. It is one of the most memorable destination wedding locations for a magical, once in a lifetime wedding. Palm Springs is known for its fresh desert air, clear skies and glowing sun.

My favorite hotel in Palm Springs is the Viceroy Palm Springs, which is designed with a modern interpretation of the classic Hollywood Regency style popular during the desert’s original glamour era. The Viceroy Hotel has a simple, luxurious combination of clean white and bold yellow accents throughout the hotel suites, studios, private villas, and Citron restaurant. The staff does everything they can to make the guests experience absolutely perfect.

In addition to the modern Viceroy, Palm Springs swank hotel circuit has quite a few notable wedding venue locations:

Parker Palm Springs / Parker Le Meridien which is located on the celebrated Palm Canyon Drive, is a gorgeous example of desert modernism and provides 13 acres of sheer beauty. It’s dark and seductive ambience make for a unique wedding setting. Colony Palms Hotel which is a stunning four-star boutique hotel, also hosts weddings. Ace Hotel & Swim Club is perfect if you want your guests to bask in hipster glory and have a really fun time during a wedding here. Sandacre Estate Palm Springs and Palm Springs Riviera Resort & Spa are others that come to mind.

This post wouldn’t be complete without some photos. Palm Springs bride & groom JoJo & Jon really knew how to have a blast during the photography.

Here are a handful of personal photos i took a few years back while in Palm Springs. i got to go hiking with my 88 year old grandmother in the Indian Canyons. I highly recommend allocating time for the hike, its easy and there were some great views!

Cincinnati until Monday

April 8, 2010

Please note that i will be in Cincinnati until Monday and will be responding to inquiries and other correspondence when i get back. Thank you for your patience as i enter a very busy shooting season!

joanne and kevin will be married this summer. joanne opted to have her hair and makeup trial on the same morning of her engagement shoot so that she could see how the look she was going for would work in photos. this is such a great idea. she even wore her wedding day shoes to break them in! i’m not going to tell you what fabulous color they are (trust me, it will be good!). one secret i CAN tell you is that their wedding will involve palm trees! after the shoot, they went for their tasting from their caterer. talk about a pre-wedding details marathon! i give them an A+ for having a productive day!
