Queensberry Wedding Albums is in my opinion the finest wedding album company in the world. My clients hire me to not only create storytelling images of their wedding day, but also to present the finest bespoke hand-crafted wedding albums that are going to last for generations. While flushmount albums are a big trend right now, I also believe there is a real desire for simple timeless style. We are all familiar with what a plain black leather wedding album looks like, so I wanted to share some photos of what the Queensberry Buckram covers look like.

Queensberry Albums wedding photographer Chicago and Boston by Heather ParkerBuckram is a stiff, durable coated fabric that has been used for centuries in bookbinding. It is  unique alternative if you want something a bit different from a leather wedding album.

For Queensberry Albums‘ matted pages, pages can be protected with metal corners.

To start off the wedding album, I chose to use a photo that was taken at an Indian wedding during a first look. The pages are done in matted pagemount style. A pagemount allows there to be a border around the photograph. Many couples choose an ivory border but for this album, red was used to highlight the colorful wedding.Indian wedding album by Boston photographer Heather ParkerThis album spread shows the beginning of a mehendi, the celebration the night before an Indian wedding ceremony.

Each album is made by hand with high quality materials. You can see a close up of the red pagemount. The red and gold colors of the wedding are carried out in the design of the album.

During the wedding reception, there can be many heartfelt and entertaining surprises. In this album layout, the groom played a song on the piano and sang to his new bride. She was truly surprised. Not even I knew this was going to happen at the reception.

A series of toasts were made before the entertainment began. Cousins of all ages choreographed a special dance to do for the bride and groom.

Please get in touch if you are interested in learning more about these gorgeous heirloom albums. The pagemount matted album shown here is only one of the options available. In addition to timeless matted albums and modern flushmount wedding albums, Queensberry creates the signature Duo album which combines a mixture of matted and flushmount spreads in the same album. Indian wedding photography is one of my favorites. The Banerjee wedding was no exception! From the start of the day until the dancing at the reception, hundreds of friends and family gathered to show their love in celebrating with the bride and groom. There was so much emotion during the day. During the kanya agaman where the bride arrived with her bridesmaids and sahelis, the room was filled with anticipation as she kept her eyes hidden with the betel leaf. The energy picked up as the bride and groom had their firest glance. The ceremonies were very personal but everyone appeared to have such a strong connection. At one point during the mandap, the fire got a bit tall and everyone could see that the room was full of wonder as it quickly was kept under control. The ceremony finished flawlessly and the newlyweds went to a park for some photos before their wedding reception. Their guests gathered over food, drinks, and dancing, and shared stories and laughs with the bride and groom. This was the bride’s farewell to the city she called home, and the couple now calls New York home. Congratulations to the both of you on your marriage!

Congratulations to Aum and Kamini! Below is a sneak peek of some of the Indian wedding photography taken at the celebration of their matrimony . It was quite challenging selecting photographs for this slide show because everything at the wedding was so beautiful, and so interesting to share with others who are not familiar with South Asian weddings.

Thank you again for allowing me to document the story of your special day! Everything from the beautiful bride, flawless henna, baraat horse, luxurious mandap, and special surprise song done by the groom make this one of the most memorable weddings I have ever photographed! I really enjoyed seeing the Gujarati ceremonial traditions, the colorful formalwear, and entertainment provided by your friends and family.

More and more I am noticing that as a wedding photographer, the weddings I document tell the stories of two cultures coming together. Interfaith, multicultural weddings are for me, just as common these days. Before each wedding, I talk with each bride and groom to learn what cultural traditions they will be incorporating into their ceremony and reception.

Before I share some wedding photography, I just wanted to thank you all for your patience while I edit and blog your wonderful weddings. I truly feel so lucky to be a part of such an important day of your lives. I have learned so much about such a variety of traditions and love telling the story of such meaningful events. Thank you for all the referrals and recommendations, it means so much that you enjoyed having me as your wedding photographer. Below, are some of the weddings that stand out as culturally rich with details in my eyes.

At this destination wedding in Jamaica, this interracial couple came from two different backgrounds and tied in some Jewish ceremonial traditions including standing under a chuppah and having a Jamaican officiant perform the marriage. I love these real wedding frames taken at sunset.

Family played an important part in their celebration as relatives joined the mariachi band in singing songs to the newlyweds. Nicole and Victor look just beautiful on their big day.

At another recent wedding in Cambridge right across the river from Boston, I photographed a Taiwanese bride and Canadian American groom with a ceremony done in both english and mandarin at a baptist church. The bride wore a traditional white vintage wedding gown and later changed into a red silk qipao before making an entrance to the reception.

This destination wedding on Nantucket Island at the White Elephant Nantucket wedding venue brought together different cultures including Chinese and American. The father of the groom surprised the newlyweds by bringing in Gund Kwok Asian Women Lion & Dragon Dance Troupe, the first all women lion & dragon dance troupe in the United States.

I photographed a recent Harvard Square multicultural Indian wedding where both Hindi and Christian traditions came together at Harvard Memorial Church. The church actually has services for Zoroastrian, Catholic, Baptist, Chabad/Jewish, Buddhist, Hindi, Christian Science and several other religious faiths. The church had some pretty amazing natural light and loads of candles.

This groom lives in the New York City area (New Jersey) and I will be photographing the couple’s Indian wedding locally. We set up a shoot for the morning, and the bride was happy to head over to the water. I sometimes like to push the envelope and it always makes for the best engagement photography. I encouraged the bride and groom not to go right into the water. We  all got a little wet (I was in up to my hips and I might have almost gone swimming if I didn’t have my iPhone in my pocket!). The bride talked about Bengali Indian wedding traditions. I learned that soon she would be moving to NYC to be with her new husband after the wedding. I was excited to hear that the groom rode a Lambretta scooter! If anyone reading this is considering having a Vespa scooter wedding, we need to talk, because I am your photographer!

An Indian wedding raas garba is filled with so much color and excitement. I was the Chicago wedding photographer for Aum & Kamini’s lavish Indian wedding garba. They began the evening lighting a candle together, surrounded by hundreds of loved ones who wore beautiful, vibrant jeweled chaniya choli, bandhani dupatta, and ghagra. Many Gujarati traditions were incorporated into their Indian wedding celebrations. Aum and Kamini kicked off their celebration by leading the dancing. Friends and family of all ages joined in the circle, clapping their hands as they formed a concentric circle around the candle. The inner circle was reserved for complex dancing, while the outer circles were a bit more relaxed and observant. Throughout the evening, the pace folk dhol beat picked up, and dandiya sticks were handed out. Guests clicked the sticks to the beat of the drums. The bride and groom sat in on a swing and were entertained by songs about love and marriage. After photographing the garba, I stayed overnight at the hotel in order to photograph their early morning baraat and mandap.

ever since i photographed sam and angela’s wedding, i fell in love with the event space. for those of you who have been working with gallery 1028, you probably already know the the possibilities this venue has to offer. below, as part of my vendor spotlight, i am introducing you to one of my favorite wedding venues in more depth, including an interview with Katie Hall.

I recently photographed for Gallery 1028. A fabulous atmosphere was created for the event by PJ Acosta at Studio AG (Alice’s Garden). Also knownw as Alice’s Garden, they are a full service, luxury floral and decor design center that has been serving such prestigious clients as Van Cleef & Arpels, Conde Nast Publications, and HBO for over 13 years. Studio AG creates unique environments from table design for intimate private events to muti-media stage sets for televised awards programs, from sleek lounge settings to original art installations. The possibilities are limitless.

All images below are by Heather Parker Photography.

Gallery 1028 is in a warehouse district with plenty of unique exterior surroundings, perfect for unique bridal photo shoots on your wedding day. Inside the venue, the large amount of bricks and wood create a moody atmosphere. From a photography perspective, because there is no white ceiling to bounce light off, it can be a challenging space for a photographer. With the right experience and quality lenses, successfully lit photos can be had even in a dark venue. Another shot taken in dark lighting can be seen here.

If your guest list is around 135 people, a separate mid-size room (below) from the main dining area can be used for your wedding ceremony. For larger wedding ceremonies the giant main room is suitable, and can be flipped over to a dining setup while guests enjoy cocktail hour in the mid-size room.wedding ceremony space

While I have seen Gallery 1028 function great without additional lighting, renting chandeliers adds a touch of elegance to any event.

Introduce yourself:
Katie Hall Jasinski, Venue Manager, Gallery 1028
1028 Hooker Street Chicago, IL on Goose Island (312) 239-2328
http://www.gallery-1028.com

Gallery 1028 is one of my favorite venues. As far as I know, its the only place in Chicago where you can have an island wedding (since its on Goose Island of course)! What are some unique things about the space?
We’re one of Chicago’s best kept secrets….Our open, loft, older feel and style are what is trendy in unique weddings now.  Plus our space can hold both ceremonies & receptions in separate rooms, big bonus!

I have seen Gallery 1028 presented with elegant sophistication and as a chic modern space. What are some popular trends at Gallery 1028 with brides and grooms this year?
Making it “their own” really.  From shabby chic to less is more with candles to a colorful moroccan theme, it’s all been done.  Our space absorbs all colors really well.  A bonus at our space is the ability to hang things in our timber loft ceilings.   From lighting to projectors to chandeliers to lanterns, it makes each event unique to the overall look.

mamta and nishant had their engagement shoot in downtown chicago so that they could show their friends and family where their “home” was for several years. their upcoming wedding is in mumbai (formerly bombay). we met on an early brisk morning and avoided tourists, hitting many popular locations for photos in chicago. we talked a lot about indian wedding ceremonies such as mehndi and the sangeet/gaun parties,  as well as the shaadi and mandap. the reason i really enjoy indian weddings is because of the many ceremonies that happen with a backdrop of such vibrant colors. mamta and nishant will have a five day wedding and hundreds of wedding guests. during our shoot, we talked about holi; i am dying to photograph the festivals.
