A timeless Chicago wedding doesn’t mean boring and in this article we will talk about style! Many modern engaged couples seek a fun, stylish photography experience that creates the type of photos you find in your favorite wedding magazine. Here I explain why my editing style is appealing to so many couples.
Your wedding is a major investment in terms of emotions, time, and money, so while trendy editing filters can be seen all over instagram, it’s important to make choices that you’ll love in the years and decades to come as much as you love today. Sometimes it can be easy to get carried away chasing trends. An option is to infuse your day with bits and pieces of your personalities and simply touch on those popular ideas you’re seeing everywhere. While this particular advice applies to the overall look and feel of your wedding, it’s also a great tip to reflect on when it comes to your wedding day photography. Just like everything else related to weddings, trends in photography absolutely come and go, but beautiful, timeless photos will be something you’ll treasure forever. I even tell my inner circle that when they’re planning their wedding it’s so important to find a photographer whose style you love and will stand the test of time.
It’s tempting to embrace every current wedding trend! Just like fashion and design fads, what’s on trend in weddings right now could very well stick, but it could just as likely fade into obscurity. Instead of planning the most on trend party you can dream up, its totally okay to keep your wedding true to YOUR personal style. Smart couples are choosing to bring in one or two popular ideas so when they look back on their photos they can proudly say “that was so us,” rather than, “I would never have rented that giant mason jar chandelier now.” The same can be said about your wedding photographs themselves. Anything heavily-filtered or over-exposed is on its way out.
When planning a timeless wedding, you can incorporate your personalities and stories with colors, flowers, and songs. Making choices YOU are thrilled about is so important. A choice based on obligation can come with a burden. When you look back on your photos and know you it was everything you wanted, you’ll be so happy!
My couples say they were so happy to find a photographer whose personality they vibe with and who had a portfolio that really showcased the type of photos they wanted to look at FOREVER. They don’t want a filter that’s going to change the look of their wedding day. Two trends right now are the bright, light, and airy, and the more moody, gritty, and dark photography. What’s remained timeless is a set of photos that show the true representation of a wedding day with just the right pop of color added. Photos pumped up too bright and photos that are darkened to create a moody feel will ever allow you to accurately remember what the day was like as you and your guests saw it with your own eyes.
I love creating a perfect balance of documentary wedding photography that offers highly-sought candids, along with guided poses for artistic portraits.
I had the privilege of capturing the timeless Chicago wedding at St. James Chapel. Katie and Jeff prepared for their wedding day at the Warwick Allerton Hotel. The bride wore a Vera Wang gown complemented by Jimmy Choo shoes that brought a touch of sparkle. Especially important to the couple was to be married within walking distance from the Warwick Allerton Hotel and The Saint James Chapel, located in the Archbishop Quigley Center was so convenient. Located right near Magnificent Mile, the wedding ceremony was timeless and traditional. Immediately after their wedding ceremony, we headed over to Union Station for some timeless portraits and braved the cold for some photos in front of the Board of Trade. For their wedding reception, the couple selected a light, romantic color palette with floral arrangements in whites, creams and greens. Candlelight and accents of gold tied the space altogether. With light touches of glamour, the atmosphere was festive.
